Why should the reservoir be laid with geomembrane?

Prevent leakage: As an important facility for water storage and deployment, the reservoir must have good anti-seepage performance. Geomembrane has good anti-permeability, which can effectively prevent the penetration and loss of water and solute. By laying geomembrane on the bottom and side walls of the reservoir, the leakage of the reservoir can be effectively reduced, and the water storage capacity and water delivery efficiency of the reservoir can be improved.

Improve the stability of the reservoir: The soil in the foundation and side walls of the reservoir may be uneven, loose or unstable. The introduction of geomembrane can improve the mechanical properties of the soil to a certain extent, increase the shear strength and stability of the soil, improve the overall stability of the reservoir, and reduce the risk of foundation settlement and side slope slippage.

Protecting Reservoir Structures: Reservoir structures are often composed of materials such as concrete, masonry, etc., which are less permeable to water. By laying geomembrane on the surface of the reservoir structure, it can effectively prevent water infiltration and erosion, prolong the service life of the reservoir structure, and reduce repair and maintenance costs.

Environmental protection: The leakage problem of the reservoir will not only lead to the waste and reduction of water resources, but also may cause pollution to the surrounding groundwater and soil. The geomembrane has good chemical stability and corrosion resistance, which can prevent the dissolved substances in the reservoir from seeping into the groundwater and protect the safety and health of the environment.

How is the geomembrane laid in the reservoir?

The following are the laying steps of geomembrane in the reservoir:

Preparations: Before starting to lay the geomembrane, first of all, you need to clean up the debris and soil at the bottom of the reservoir and around it, and make sure the surface is flat, dry and clean.

Measuring and cutting geomembrane: According to the size and shape of the reservoir, measure the required geomembrane size and cut the geomembrane into the required size and shape with the help of special cutting tools.

Laying geomembrane: unroll the cut geomembrane roll, and align one edge with the edge of one side of the reservoir to ensure that the geomembrane covers the bottom and side walls of the reservoir evenly.

Butt joint and fixation: Butt adjacent geomembrane edges, and use special geomembrane adhesive or welding equipment to connect them together to ensure airtightness and no leakage. At the same time, use heavy objects, revetment stones or anchor bolts between the edge of the geomembrane and the edge of the reservoir to fix the geomembrane to prevent it from moving.

Filling and covering: After the laying of the geomembrane is completed, the bottom of the reservoir is filled with impermeable soil or other materials of appropriate thickness, and a protective layer is covered on it to protect the geomembrane from damage or damage.

Inspection and Repair: After laying is complete, carefully inspect the geomembrane joints and the entire laying area to make sure there are no cracks, holes, or other damage. If any problems are found, repair or replace the geomembrane in time.

Please note that the above are the general geomembrane laying steps, and the specific laying method may vary depending on the size of the reservoir, design requirements and construction specifications. Prior to geomembrane laying, it is best to consult a professional geotechnical engineer or construction team to ensure a correct and code-compliant laying process.
