How are geotextiles different from other types of building materials?

time:07 8 月, 2023 Views:18

Geotextile is a construction material with different physical properties (particle size, distribution, consistency and density, etc.)

Isolate the soil and sand, soil and concrete, so that two or more materials will not be lost or mixed, maintain the overall structure and function of the material, and strengthen the bearing capacity of the structure

Geotextiles are widely used in reinforcement of railway embankment, maintenance of highway pavement, sports hall, protection of dams, isolation of hydraulic structures, tunnels, coastal tidal flats, reclamation, environmental protection and other projects

How are geotextiles different from other types of building materials?

Material composition: Geotextiles are usually made of synthetic fibers (such as polyester, polypropylene, polyethylene, etc.) or natural fibers (such as palm fiber), which are manufactured by weaving, weaving or needle punching. Other building materials such as concrete, steel, bricks, etc. usually have different compositions and manufacturing processes.

Structural features: Geotextiles are flexible materials, usually in the form of films or textiles. It is permeable, flexible and breathable, and is often found in thin or layered structures. While other building materials tend to have more mechanical strength and rigidity, suitable for load-bearing structures.

Function and function: The functions of geotextile mainly include separation, reinforcement, filtration, drainage and protection. It can be used to control the movement of soil particles, improve soil stability or in filtration and drainage systems. The main function of other building materials may be to provide load bearing, thermal insulation, sound insulation or protection.

Application fields: Geotextiles are widely used in civil engineering and environmental engineering, such as road engineering, water conservancy engineering, protection engineering, embankment engineering, etc. Other building materials can be used in a variety of architectural structures, including buildings, bridges, tunnels, and power facilities.

Conditions of use: Geotextiles are usually used in soil or underground environments to play the role of separation, filtration or reinforcement. While other building material usage conditions may be more concerned with indoor or outdoor spaces and structures.

Despite the multiple distinctions, there are overlapping applications and interactions between geotextiles and other building materials. In actual engineering, according to the specific design needs and engineering requirements, the characteristics and performance of different materials are comprehensively considered, and the appropriate material combination and application method are selected to achieve the expected goals and effects.
